        中新社香港9月23日电 诺贝尔物理学奖得主、“光纤之父”高锟23日在香港离世,享年84岁。

        香港特区行政长官林郑月娥23日表示,高锟教授是香港人的骄傲,对他的辞世深感哀痛,谨代表香港特区政府,向他的家人致以深切慰问。

        香港中文大学校长段崇智教授表示,高教授是出类拔萃的学者,也是高等教育界高瞻远瞩的领袖。他作为港中大第三任校长,在?#25991;?#31215;极推动大学整体发展,建立稳固基础,为有才之士开拓发展空间,成就超卓。高教授的离世对港中大、香港及全球学术界均是重大损失,谨代表中大教职员、同学及校友向高教授的家人致以深切慰问。

        高锟1933年11月在上海出生,祖籍江苏金山?#23567;?949年,高锟进入香港圣若瑟书?#28023;?#20043;后到英国升学和工作。1966年,他首度提出光导纤维在通讯上应用的基本原理,并开发了实现光通讯所需的辅助系统,促成互联网的出现。1970年,高锟回港出任香港中文大学电子系创系(现称电子工程学系)教授,1987年至1996年出任香港中文大学校长,1996年当选为中国科学?#21644;?#31821;院士。2009年高锟获颁诺贝尔物理学奖,以表扬其在光学通信领域的突破性成就。

        2004年初,高锟被证实患上早期阿兹海默症,为协助阿兹海默症患者和家属,高锟及夫人黄美芸成立高锟慈善基金。

        在高锟夫妇2010年的一封公开信中,他?#20999;?#36947;:“(高锟)在香港?#25237;?#39640;中、也曾在中大执教鞭、当校长,并在这里退休,在香港生活逾三十载,是个名副其实的香港人。”

        林郑月娥在?#30475;?#20013;说:“高锟教授是开发和应用光纤技术的先驱,为现代通讯科技带来革命性的变化,对香港、国际,以至全球人类,作出巨大贡献。”

        林郑月娥表示,高锟教授对香港的科研发展亦高瞻远瞩,力促成立香港科学园,为香港今日的创科发展奠下稳固基础。

        最后她表示:“高锟教授出类拔萃,是香港人的骄傲。我对他的辞世,深感哀痛。我谨代表香港特别行政区政府,向他的家人致以深切慰问。”
